The Region of NORDLAND in Norway has been awarded the most youth friendly European Region 2001.
Confronted with a particularly severe geographic and remote situation, it has developed a youth policy which on the one hand guarantees, through its "strategic Youth Policy Programme", the participation of young people in regional planning processes and on the other hand endeavours to strive for a forward-looking comprehensive youth policy in Regions, Cities and municipalities. "Europrise" or the "Klara Klok" Programme are only two of the initiatives that are worth quoting.
