As the Council of Europe has declared 2005 as the Year of Citizenship through Education, the Youth Summer School will focus upon multiculturalism, intercultural learning processes and intercultural communication. It will allow young people to explore the concept of citizenship in a multicultural Europe, and to tackle issues such as multi-faith societies, multiculturalism in schools and the workplace and cultural responses to issues affecting young people, such as teenage pregnacncy, drug and alcohol abuse.
Moreover, participants in the 2005 Youth Summer School will elect the first youth representatives to the AER's 4 Committees. These young people will contribute to the work of the Committees and will help to ensure that youth issues are mainstreamed within the work of the AER.
