AER Observatory on Migrant Women (AEROMW)

- European Regions are reaching out to those women who need it the most! (Above : Portlandia, Portland OR) (© Scools)
The European Commission designated 2007 as 'European year of Equal Opportunities for all'. The AER wants to give a voice to those women who are not normally heard: migrant women.
Being convinced that the regions have a tremendous role to play in promoting integration, through their policies on education, social inclusion, health and social services, the AER Group on Equal Opportunities decided the creation of an AER Observatory on Migrant Women (AEROMW). This was officially announced in Timisoara on October 12, 2007.
Up to now, 9 regions have officially joined this project : Ile-de-France and Limousin (FR), Norrbotten (SE), Valencia (ES), Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Calabria (IT), Mures and Timis (RO) and Varazdin (HR). We hope more regions will join very soon in order to develop this new tool.
Please find hereafter a concept paper on the AEROMW, adopted in Timisoara, as well as a registration form.
Our very first step will be to get a closer look at micro-credit, and how it can be a tool for migrant women and all women to become economically independent (BRUSSELS SPRING SESSION, APRIL 28, 2008).

Project proposals
March 3, 2008 : Regione Calabria is looking out for partners to establish a permanent City2City (C2C) center on Migration Issues in Brussels.
The City2City project has made, over the last 3 years, an innovative attempt to systematize European migration policies. It helped monitor EU activities on Migration and has positioned itself as a source of information on Migration issues. With the project coming to an end in 2008, Region Calabria is looking for partners to establish a permanent C2C Center in Brussels, which would strive at improving regional policies, measures and priorities on mobility and on economic migration in line with European strategies and programs.
The planned center will develop - on behalf of its members - relationships, projects and shared objectives in order to contribute to regional policies on migration and to bring them to the center stage of European policies.
