The Assembly of European Regions (AER) is the forum where regional officers and politicians meet each other and start concrete cooperation projects, in order to strengthen the interregional partnership and improve the life of their citizens.
In this webpage, the AER showcases some of its best projects, Committee by Committee.
AER has recently launched a call for regional best practices on climate change. Collecting this data is crucial for a two main reasons. First, climate change is high on EU agenda (the European Commission published its green paper in June 2007). Second, it is crucial to highlight the role of regions in mitigation and adaptation policies as the European Commission has opened a consultation period in order to foster the exchange of experience.

The AER is launching a series of peer reviews on the prevention of alcohol-related harm. The aim is to allow partner regions to improve the design and implementation of their alcohol policies, by exchanging ideas and views on what works best in the prevention of alcohol-related harm, and what doesn't. The partners will focus on the following situations: traffic, children & young people, pregnancy & nursing and brief intervention in primary healthcare.
The first AER Alcohol Peer Review will take place on the 24th October 2007 in the Azores (P).
The AER alcohol peer reviews are part of the project 'Building Capacity- Implementing Coordinated Alcohol Policy in Europe', which is co-financed by the EC European Public Health Programme.

The AER has organised combined Summer Schools since 2001: A Summer School for regional politicians and a Youth Summer School for young active citizens from the AER member regions. The Summer Schools provide a unique occasion for politicians and young people from the regions to meet and get to know each other, as well as to go back to their regions with brand-new ideas for projects and activities. The participants at the Youth Summer School are the AER Youth Ambassadors, who conduct projects in their home regions and in cooperation with young people from other European regions. In February 2006 their role and activities were also presented to the EU Commissioner Margot Wallström.
